About Us
Our Story
The story of the Positive Brothers United (PBU) originated back in 1991, which was the year all the original members officially knew each other. Some before then, but we were all friends and family by this year. Hence, we consider 1991 the year everything began. PBU comprises distinguished entrepreneurs, professionals, and community organizers who have maintained a close-knit bond for over 30 years, and in 2021, that bond became a community mission. PBU became an officially incorporated nonprofit organization with a dream to help rebuild the community of Merced, CA. Standing on the shoulders of our elders and predecessors who had taught us so well, we felt compelled to carry on the community-building and outreach tradition. With this group's vast array of experience, we plan to expand our mission nationally and internationally. Positive change and progress for marginalized communities is what PBU strives to help bring to the world!

Tena Williams
A licensed therapist in the state of California. She has 36 years of combined professional work experience in the field of mental health and criminology/corrections. She is a community leader and proactive in fostering unity in her community.

Allen Huddleston Sr.
The proud pastor of the St. Matthew Baptist Church. We strive to be Christ centered, word focused and ministry minded. Our goal is to be the difference in our community. One of the ways we do this is with our ministry for the homeless.
Tawana Parks
Educator, scholar, entrepreneur, and spoken word artist, Tawana Parks (she/they), also known as Auntie Free, moves souls through her work. She impresses her legacy through critical love, care, and connection. Tawana designs, implements, and assesses programs that transform the lives of students.

Shannon Phillips
Shannon Phillips is a Social Work Practitioner who has been the CEO of Positive Brother’s United since its foundation in 2022. Husband and father of three, he obtained his master’s degree in social work and utilizes the experiences from his upbringing to help mentor youth. He is a volunteer of various school-based organizing boards, works with foster youth and has been coaching youth sports for the last 15 plus years. He believes that prioritizing the youth is essential to securing a productive society. “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.” Malcolm X

Andre Hedrington
Andre Hedrington is the owner and operator of Real Results & Investment, a real estate company located in the Central Valley that focuses on renovating and selling homes. Andre is also a partner and owner of the renovation company Blueprint Design and Renovations in the Central Valley. Andre has over 15 years of experience in the Real Estate and Construction industry here in the Central Valley. As a Merced native his desire and goals are to see Merced thrive specifically the youth of Merced.

Rodney Montoya
Rodney Montoya is the dynamic CEO of Montoya Jewelry Designs LLC, located in Sonoma County, California. An award-winning jewelry designer and entrepreneur, Rodney has built a reputation for crafting stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect a passion for artistry and attention to detail. Having attended Metro State University in Denver, Colorado, Rodney combines his educational experience with a commitment to integrity and family values. He mentors his staff and engages with the youth in the community, fostering a culture of support and collaboration. Rodney’s business reflects his core principles, making it a true testament to his passion for design and community.
